Teenage Kicks have broken up and have posted about playing a farewell show on their Facebook page. You can see a statement from the band below.
I’m sad to announce that as of today Jeff and I will no longer be continuing Teenage Kicks. Enough bands have broken up recently that I don’t need to bore you with the semantics of the music industry or the hardships of being a musician in 2015, so we’ll skip past that. Just know that we tried incredibly hard to make this work, and to those who have supported us over the last five years we thank you one hundred times over. We never wandered from who we are or what we wanted this band to be, so in that we were successful. We made the record we wanted to make, and in doing so we bucked the trends. You can always trust that we’ll stay true. I’ll keep playing music, and so will Jeff, it’s just going to be in a different vehicle. We’ve gotten to do some incredible things in this band and for all of that we’re incredibly thankful. I’m going to be 30 in a couple of months, which means I’ve been at this for 15 years and with any luck I’ll be at it for 15 more.
We will only be playing two final shows. The first of which is on Saturday, April 11th at The Horseshoe, but instead of a boring Kicks set we’ll be playing Weezer’s Pinkerton in its entirety (http://tinyurl.com/
The second show is on Saturday, May 23rd at The Horseshoe with the original Teenage Kicks line-up of myself, Jeff, Pat and Cam (http://tinyurl.com/
Thanks again, and maybe we’ll win next time.
Pete + Jeff (and Cam, and Pat, and Christian, and Keegan, and the eight drummers who played with us over the last 12 months)
ps, ultimate thanks go out to Adam Kreeft and Stacey Kerslake who worked their butts off to try and make this band a success.
