Grin & Bear have released their new album Range Wars, which you can stream on Spotify and purchase on iTunes. You can read a press release below.
On their debut album Range Wars, released independently in May, 2015, the Jersey Coast rockers of Grin & Bear premier an album that has been two years in the making. Composed of both lyrical and instrumental ups and downs, the album tackles the inevitable confusion of being a young adult suddenly tossed out into the real world.
The four-piece ensemble recorded the majority of the record in the family room of an old house located in State College, Pennsylvania. Embracing the high ceilings and splintered wood floors, they huddle together in the subzero temperatures to record their first record as a band.
Grin & Bear consists of Brian Perrino (guitar/vocals), Will Avon (guitar/ vocals), Gavin Fisher (bass/vocals), and Chris Calabrese (drums). Each coming from their own respective projects, the longtime friends got together in hopes to finally feel at home with a band.
“We wanted an opportunity to create the best music that we possibly could, with some of the most influential musicians and friends that we could,” Perrino says.
Pulling from Avon’s audio engineering background and the other member’s brief recording knowledge, the indie-rockers embraced the DIY mentality and set out to record the best album possible. After a handful of “final” mixes, followed by a long awaited sigh of relief, they released the final cut to the world.
Grin & Bear’s debut effort, Range Wars, was presented as a full length 13 track album via Soundcloud on May 13, 2015. Displaying musical range and creativity, behind Perrino’s gritty vocals, the Jersey rockers break the mold of what’s expected from your standard indie-rock record.
“Grin & Bear’s deliberate disregard to song structures, combined with Perrino’s desperately angry vocal delivery, is reminiscent of an early Say Anything with a modern tinge. If you’ve been following the booming emo-resurgence of the past few years at all you will not want to sleep on this album.” – Nick Hodgins / Waster Inc.
Grin & Bear is currently looking for press for Range Wars and plans on touring in support of this release ASAP.
